What is it?

Learn German with a card box that spaces repetition: what you know comes back less often, what you miss comes back sooner. The study timer with a chime turns good intentions into real sessions, and the speech output speaks German.

Sections of their own for phrasal verbs and false friends: they give you compact German verbs (“to put up with → ertragen”) and warn you about traps like gift/Gift.

If you speak Italian, Imparare il tedesco is the one for you.

How it works

  1. Choose a section: core vocabulary, phrasal verbs, false friends or music.
  2. Read the card, judge yourself, turn it over.
  3. Tap for pronunciation — it comes from your device's German voice.
  4. Set the study timer when good intentions should become a session.

Then the music section with 32 German and Austrian classics from 1939 to 2015, each with an original description in English and about ten key words. No lyrics are stored.

For English speakers learning German — and for German-speaking hosts, clubs and families who want to recommend an app whose interface the learner can actually read.

What you get

Privacy and technology

Runs entirely in your browser. Your progress stays on your device and is sent nowhere — no account, no sign-up, no ads, no tracking. The share menu puts the app on your home screen; after that it works without an internet connection as well.

Because nothing sits on a server, nothing can be fetched back from one: clear your browser data and your progress is gone. That is why More offers Create backup — a file you can keep and load again, on another device too.

Common questions

Is the app in German or in English?

The interface is entirely in English — it is for people who do not speak German yet. What is learned is German, and the speech output speaks German.

How does it differ from “Imparare il tedesco”?

In the source language and in the vocabulary. Imparare il tedesco has an Italian interface; the phrasal-verb and false-friend sections exist only here, because they only make sense for English speakers.

What about “Learn English” — is that the same app?

No, the reverse one. Learn English is aimed at German speakers and has a German interface. The core vocabulary comes from the same collection; the music section is a different one.

What happens to my progress if I clear my browser?

It is gone — there is no server to fetch it back from. Safari clears a website's storage after seven days without a visit anyway. That is why every app here has Create backup: keep the file, load it again later, on another device if you like.
