What is it?

A card box with spaced repetition, a study timer and a progress display.

Phrasal verbs and false friends have sections of their own, because that is exactly where school English stops. To put up with cannot be worked out from its parts, and become does not mean bekommen. Both are available at any time through their own buttons.

How it works

1. Choose a section: core vocabulary, phrasal verbs, false friends or music.
2. Read the card, judge yourself, turn it over.
3. Tap for pronunciation — it comes from your device's English voice.
4. Set the study timer when good intentions should become a session.

Then 100 songs from 1961 to 2023. What is stored is the title, the artist, the year, a translation of the title, an original description of the content and individual words — no lyrics. A button leads to a lyrics site for reading along.

Who is it for?

This app is written for German speakers: the cards give the German side, and the explanations are in German.

It is aimed at anyone who had English at school and finds it still catches in conversation — usually at exactly the two places that have sections of their own here.

Privacy and technology

Runs entirely in your browser. Your progress stays on your device and is sent nowhere — no account, no sign-up, no ads, no tracking. The share menu puts the app on your home screen; after that it works without an internet connection as well.

Common questions

What are phrasal verbs, and why a section of their own?

Verbs with a preposition attached whose meaning does not follow from the parts: to put up with means to endure, not to place upwards. They are everywhere in everyday English and ordered in no vocabulary book — hence 200 of them as a stack of their own.

And false friends?

Words that look like a German one and mean something else. Become means werden, not bekommen. Gift is a present, not poison. 150 such traps, with the right translation beside each.

Are lyrics included?

No. What is stored is the title, the artist, the year, a translation of the title, an original description of the content and individual words. A button leads to a lyrics site for reading along.

What happens to my progress if I clear my browser?

It is gone — there is no server to fetch it back from. Safari clears a website's storage after seven days without a visit anyway. That is why every app here has Create backup: keep the file, load it again later, on another device if you like.
