What is it?
In the dojo you hear Japanese all the time: counting, commands, greetings. This app teaches you the words properly — dojo Japanese, everyday Japanese, and the terms of your art.
Eight arts to choose from: karate (with style choice), judo, kendō, aikidō, jūjutsu, iaidō, kyūdō and sumō. Tick what you train — one or several.
How it works
- Tick your martial art. Dojo and everyday Japanese are always in the deck.
- If you like, add the script: hiragana and katakana, 46 characters each.
- Look at the card, rate yourself, reveal the answer — the app speaks every word.
- What you know returns less often. What you miss returns sooner.
The interface comes in German, English and Italian.

For anyone training a Japanese martial art who wants to learn the terms properly. And for anyone starting Japanese — the everyday words and the script need no martial art.

Privacy and technology
Runs entirely in your browser. Your progress stays on your device and is sent nowhere — no account, no sign-up, no ads, no tracking. The share menu puts the app on your home screen; after that it works without an internet connection as well.
Because nothing sits on a server, nothing can be fetched back from one: clear your browser data and your progress is gone. That is why More offers Create backup — a file you can keep and load again, on another device too.
Common questions
What is the difference from the Karate Quiz?
The Karate Quiz tests belt-exam knowledge. This app teaches the language.
I don’t do karate — is it still for me?
Yes. Seven other arts are there to tick — and everyday Japanese and the script need no martial art at all.
Do I have to learn the characters?
No. Hiragana and katakana are separate decks. Add them only if you want to.
What happened to Learn Karate Terms?
That is this app — renamed and much expanded. Your progress is still there, and the old address forwards here.
What happens to my progress if I clear my browser?
It is gone — there is no server to fetch it back from. Safari clears a website's storage after seven days without a visit anyway. That is why every app here has Create backup: keep the file, load it again later, on another device if you like.
